The University seeks a qualified individual to assume the role of a full-time Theatre Director in Residence, beginning November 1, 2021. In this 12-month position, the Director oversees all programming and administrative functions of Clarke's co-curricular theatre program and partners with internal and external constituencies to ensure program and production success and to support the arts at Clarke and throughout Dubuque.

The Director will:

  • Curate year-round opportunities/activities in collaboration with other vested internal and external stakeholders;
  • Work to form internal and external partnerships to support the arts at Clarke and in the greater Dubuque community;
  • Ensure high quality programming that aligns with the spirit of the University's mission;
  • Work with other Clarke entities to choose a program schedule that will allow for greatest reach and potential involvement;
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for students;
  • Develop relationships with local arts organizations and seek opportunities for collaboration and/or rentals;
  • Direct and coordinate production of mainstage shows and additional programming;
  • Hire and effectively manage production teams for each show, including contract labor, students and production volunteers; and
  • Support guest directors/designers to ensure all programs meet artistic and budget goals.

Qualifications include: a Bachelor's degree (a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Arts or related field is preferred); demonstrated skill in verbal and written communication; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse populations; basic mathematical skills and ability; creative and self-motivated with minimal supervision; good judgment and decision-making skills within the scope of job duties; outstanding time management and organization skills required; and the ability to manage multiple projects and accomplish critical tasks on time, despite interruptions.
