  • Full Time

At Clarke University, students study more than facts and theories, they explore new ways of thinking. Everything we do is student-focused.  For faculty and staff, this means more than just coming to work every day it means truly collaborating across the university to put student success first. It also means living and working in Dubuque, a thriving city named one of the "most livable" small cities in the country and one of "Best Green Places" in the country.

The Department of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a full-time, three-year appointment/term, with the possibility of moving to tenure-track, faculty position in Chemistry set to begin August 2019. The rank of this position is open, in that Instructors, Assistant or Associate Professors are encouraged to apply. Although Clarke University heavily prioritizes teaching in the liberal arts tradition, evidence of professional activity and service are expected.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a one-semester health-science focused course (General, Organic and Biochemistry), develop a course in their specialty and be able to teach General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry labs. Additionally, candidates with a demonstrated interest in, or professional experience with, fermentation science and/or brewing are preferred.  We are especially interested in a chemist or biochemist with enthusiasm for developing partnerships with local breweries as a means to create research opportunities for undergraduates.

Clarke has well-established programs in Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry. We also serve health science students in the areas of Physical Therapy, Athletic Training and Nursing.  Housed in the Marie Miske Center for Science Inquiry, the department holds a full suite of modern instrumentation for teaching and research: GC-MS, two HPLC's, FT-IR/ATR, Fluorescence Spectrophotometer, 90 MHz NMR, refrigerated centrifuges and a Fluorescence Microscope.  We have newly constructed Food Safe labs with an extensive array of instrumentation, food processing equipment and sensory booths.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. is preferred; however, candidates who are A.B.D. will also be considered. Proficiency with instrumentation is important.

To apply, please upload the following documents online at http://clarke.applicantpool.com:  letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, unofficial transcripts, and three recent letters of recommendation.  Confidential letters can be sent to HRLetters@clarke.edu.
